Electives. We had several weeks of spring and fall classes. Anyone, including children, could sign up to teach and make money. This is where I both learned and taught sign language. We also had professional writers and painters, dancers, chess, music, drama, spinning wool, etc. It met once a week for several hours, with different classes at different hours.
Classical conversations met once a week, and a tutor taught homeschool children of about the same age the lessons for the next week. They would complete them at home, with their parents assisting. It was easier on the parents. We had formal debates, mock trial where kids learned how the court system worked, but my favorite was Jim Nance's logic. I created a logic camp for kids that my mom taught from that. Classical Conversations had pros and cons. I would have liked to see the program more flexible. People shouldn't *have* to learn Latin.
